Usage of Bendroflumethiazide and nadolol

Bendroflumethiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention.

Nadolol is a beta-blocker. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins).

Bendroflumethiazide and nadolol is a combination medicine used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

Bendroflumethiazide and nadolol may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Bendroflumethiazide and nadolol side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Bendroflumethiazide and nadolol may cause serious side effects. Call your doctor at once if you have:

  • fast, slow, or uneven heartbeat;
  • numbness or cold feeling in your hands and feet;
  • a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
  • little or no urination; or
  • signs of an electrolyte imbalance--dry mouth, increased thirst, mood changes, confusion, vomiting, muscle pain or weakness, lack of energy, fast heartbeats, little or no urine.
  • Common side effects of bendroflumethiazide and nadolol may include:

  • dizziness; or
  • feeling tired.

    Before taking Bendroflumethiazide and nadolol

    You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to bendroflumethiazide or nadolol, or if you have:

  • asthma;
  • slow heartbeats that have caused you to faint;
  • a serious heart condition called "AV block" (2nd or 3rd degree), or if your heart cannot pump blood properly;
  • severe or uncontrolled heart failure;
  • an allergy to sulfa drugs; or
  • if you are unable to urinate.
  • To make sure bendroflumethiazide and nadolol is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • congestive heart failure;
  • chest pain;
  • asthma or other breathing disorder;
  • diabetes;
  • a thyroid disorder;
  • kidney disease;
  • liver disease (or cirrhosis);
  • gout;
  • lupus; or
  • an electrolyte imbalance (such as low levels of sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, or magnesium in your blood).
  • It is not known whether this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

    Bendroflumethiazide and nadolol can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while using this medicine.

    Bendroflumethiazide and nadolol is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.

    Usual Adult Dose for Hypertension:

    Initial dose: Bendroflumethiazide 5 mg-Nadolol 40 mg orally once a dayMaintenance dose: Bendroflumethiazide 5 mg-Nadolol 40 to 80 mg orally once a dayUse: Treatment of hypertension if the fixed dose combination represents an appropriate dose for the individual patient.

    Warnings

    You should not use bendroflumethiazide and nadolol if you have asthma or if you are unable to urinate. You should not use bendroflumethiazide and nadolol if you have a serious heart condition such as "AV block" (2nd or 3rd degree), uncontrolled heart failure, slow heartbeats that have caused you to faint, or if your heart cannot pump blood properly.

    Do not stop using this medicine suddenly, or you could develop serious heart problems. Follow your doctor's instructions.

    What other drugs will affect Bendroflumethiazide and nadolol

    Tell your doctor about all your current medicines and any you start or stop using, especially:

  • any other heart or blood pressure medications;
  • digoxin;
  • lithium;
  • probenecid;
  • a blood thinner--warfarin, Coumadin, Jantoven;
  • an MAO inhibitor--isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue injection, phenelzine, rasagiline, Selegiline, tranylcypromine, and others; or
  • NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)--aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), Celecoxib, Diclofenac, Indomethacin, Meloxicam, and others.
