Usage of Izervay

Izervay (avacincaptad pegol) is used for treating geographic atrophy (GA), due to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Geographic atrophy can lead to irreversible vision loss. Izervay aims to slow down the progression of geographic atrophy, so your vision does not deteriorate as rapidly, allowing you to maintain better vision for a longer period of time. Izervay is given as an intravitreal injection; this is when medication is injected directly into the vitreous humor in the eye.

Izervay side effects

Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to the active ingredient avacincaptad pegol, or other ingredients contained in this medicine; click here for a full list of Izervay ingredients.

The most common Izervay side effects include:

conjunctival hemorrhage (13%),

increased intraocular pressure (9%),

blurred vision (8%),

neovascular age-related macular degeneration (7%).

Serious Izervay side effects include:

ocular and periocular infections,

Increased elevated intraocular inflammation (IOP),

endophthalmitis and retinal detachments,

neovascular AMD,

increase in intraocular pressure.

Before taking Izervay

You should not use Izervay if you have ocular or periocular infections, or active intraocular inflammation.

How to use Izervay

Izervay is given by a qualified physician as an intravitreal injection; this is when medication is injected directly into the vitreous humor in the eye.

The recommended Izervay dose is a 2 mg intravitreal injection given once monthly (28 ± 7 days.) for 12 months.

Izervay is available as a 2 mg (0.1 mL of 20 mg/mL) solution in a single-dose vial.

Prior to use, allow Izervay to reach room temperature, 20⁰C to 25⁰C (68⁰F to 77⁰F).

Other drugs may interact with this medicine. Tell your doctor about all the other medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
