Usage of Lokelma

Lokelma is used to treat hyperkalemia (high levels of potassium in the blood) in adults.

Lokelma works directly in the intestines and is not absorbed into your bloodstream.

Lokelma may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Lokelma side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Lokelma contains sodium and may cause swelling or rapid weight gain.

Before taking Lokelma

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • slow digestion;
  • a bowel obstruction or severe constipation;

  • Because Lokelma is not absorbed into the bloodstream, it is not expected to be harmful during pregnancy or while nursing a baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

    Lokelma can make it harder for your body to absorb other medicines you take by mouth. If you take any other medicines, take them 2 hours before or 2 hours after you take this medicine.
