Usage of Pamprin Cramp Formula

Acetaminophen is a pain reliever and fever reducer.

Magnesium salicylate is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) in a group of drugs called salicylates (sa-LIS-il-ates). Pamprin Cramp Formula works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain, fever, and inflammation.

Pamabrom is a diuretic (water pill).

Pamprin Cramp Formula is a combination medicine used to treat menstrual symptoms such as cramps, headache, backache, muscle aches, bloating, and fluid retention.

Pamprin Cramp Formula may also be used for other purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Pamprin Cramp Formula side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic Reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

This medicine may cause serious side effects. Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • severe stomach pain;
  • a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
  • bloody or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds;
  • any redness or swelling; or
  • ringing in your ears or hearing problems.
  • Common side effects of Pamprin Cramp Formula may include:

  • heartburn; or
  • upset stomach.
  • This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

    Before taking Pamprin Cramp Formula

    You should not take this medication if you are allergic to acetaminophen (Tylenol), magnesium salicylate (Nuprin), pamabrom, aspirin or other NSAIDs.

    Do not give this medication to a child or teenager with a fever, flu symptoms, or chicken pox. Salicylates can cause Reye's syndrome, a serious and sometimes fatal condition in children.

    Magnesium salicylate may cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal. These conditions can occur without warning while you are taking Pamprin Cramp Formula, especially if you take this medicine for a long time, or:

  • if you are age 60 or older;
  • if you have a history of stomach ulcer or bleeding;
  • if you drink more than 3 alcoholic beverages per day;
  • if you take a blood thinner (warfarin, Coumadin), a steroid, or a diuretic ("water pill"); or
  • if you also take any other NSAID, such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), Naproxen (Aleve), Celecoxib, diclofenac, Indomethacin, Meloxicam, and others.
  • Ask a doctor or pharmacist if it is safe for you to take this medicine if you have other medical conditions, especially:

  • liver disease, cirrhosis, or history of alcoholism;
  • heartburn or other stomach problems;
  • high blood pressure, heart disease;
  • kidney disease;
  • gout;
  • diabetes; or
  • arthritis.
  • Magnesium salicylate may be harmful to an unborn baby if the mother takes the medication during the last 3 months of pregnancy. Do not take Pamprin Cramp Formula without telling your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

    This medicine can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

    Do not take more of this medication than is recommended. An overdose of acetaminophen can damage your liver or cause death. Call your doctor at once if you have nausea, pain in your upper stomach, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, or jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes).

    Ask a doctor or pharmacist before using any other cold, allergy, pain, or sleep medication. Acetaminophen (sometimes abbreviated as APAP) is contained in many combination medicines. Taking certain products together can cause you to get too much acetaminophen which can lead to a fatal overdose.

    In rare cases, acetaminophen may cause a severe skin reaction. Stop taking this medicine and call your doctor right away if you have skin redness or a rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling.

    Other drugs may interact with Pamprin Cramp Formula, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use now and any medicine you start or stop using.
