Uses

indications

Ampicillin 500mg drugs are indicated in the following cases:

Treatment of bacterial infections caused by sensitive bacteria:

  • Upper respiratory tract infection: Sinusitis, otitis media, chronic bronchitis powder and laryngitis caused by sensitive bacteria strains.
  • Urinary tract infections.
  • Some other infections are sensitive: Treatment of typhoid, listerin infection, gonorrhea due to gonococcus ...
  • Pharmacokinus

ampicilin is a broad -spectrum antibiotic that works on both Gram -positive and gram -negative bridges: Streptoccoccus, Pneumococcus and Staphylococcus without penicilinase. However, the effect on the streptococcus beta and pneumococcus is lower than the benzyl penicillin.

Ampicilin also works on meningococcus and gonococcus. Ampicilin has a good effect on some gram -negative bacteria such as E. Coli, Proteus Mirabilis, Shigella, Salmonella. With antibacterial spectrum and pharmacokinetic properties, ampicillin is often chosen as a medicine for urinary tract infections, cholecystitis and cholangitis.

Ampicilin does not work on some gram -negative bacteria such as: Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, Proteus. Ampicilin also does not work on anaerobic bacteria (bacteroides) causing abscess and infection wounds in the abdominal cavity. In severe bacterial infections from the intestine or vagina, ampicilin is replaced by a combination of clindamycin + aminoglycosides or metronidazol + aminoglycosides or metronidazol + cephalosporin.

The following is the sensitivity of some bacterial species for ampicillin (according to the antibiotic laboratory of Bach Mai Hospital 1996).

    Dynamic pharmacokinetics

oral dose of 0.5 g, after 2 hours will have peak concentration in serum about 3 mg/liter.

In pregnant women, serum concentration is only 50% compared to non -pregnant women, because in pregnant women, ampicillin can be distributed much larger and ampicillin diffuses through the placenta during fetal circulation and amniotic fluid.

ampicilin does not pass the blood - brain barrier. In pus meningitis, due to the inflammation of the blood - the brain and the permeability changes, the ampicillin is usually penetrated into the central nervous system enough to have the effect, and the medium concentration of the medication in the cerebrospinal fluid reaches 10 - 35% of the serum concentration.

Ampicillin is excreted quickly as approximately like benzyl penicillin, mainly through renal tubules (80%) and bile ducts.

For gonorrhea, a single dose can be taken with ampicilin along with probenecid, this drug reduces ampicillin elimination through the renal tubules.

About 20% ampicillin binds to plasma proteins.

    ampicilin excreted in milk.
