    ATC code: J01cro2.

Amoxicillin is a semi -synthetic antibiotic belonging to the Beta - Lactamin family with broad bactericidal spectrum for many Gram -positive and gram -negative bacteria due to the synthetic inhibition of bacterial cell walls. But because Amoxicilin is easily decomposed by beta - lactamase, therefore does not work for bacterial strains producing these enzymes (many of En Clavulanic acid due to the fermentation of Streptomyces Clavuligerus, which has a beta - lactam structure similar to penicilin, has the ability to inhibit beta - lactamase due to the majority of Gram -negative bacteria and Staphylococcus. Especially, it has a strong inhibition effect of beta - lactamase transmitted via plasmid that resists penicillins and cephalosporins. Clavulanic acid itself has very weak antibacterial effects.

Clavulanic acid helps amoxicillin not to be destroyed by beta - lactamase, and expand the antibacterial spectrum of amoxicillin effectively to many common bacteria that have resisted amoxicillin, resistant penicillins and cephalosporins.

    Dynamic pharmacokinetics

amoxicillin and clavulanic acid are easily absorbed by oral.

The concentration of these 2 substances in the serum is up to 1-2 hours of taking the medicine. With a dose of 250mg (or 500mg) will have 5µg/ml (or 8 - 9µg/ml) amoxicillin and about 3µg/ml of clavulanic acid in serum. After 1 hour oral 20mg/kg amoxicillin + 5mg/kg Clavulanic acid, there will be an average of 8.7µg/ml of amoxicillin and 3µg/ml of clavulanic acid in serum.

The absorption of the drug is not affected by food and it is best to take it right before meals.

The oral bioactivity of amoxicillin is 90% and of Clavulanic acid is 75%. Half a lifetime of amoxicillin in serum 1-2 hours and of Clavulanic acid is about 1 hour.

55 - 70% amoxicillin and 30-40% clavulanic acid are discharged through urine in the form of activity. Probenecid extends the excretion time of amoxicillin but does not affect the elimination of clavulanic acid.
