Pharmacokology

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid has a strong peeling effect on the horny layer and mild antiseptic when applied on the skin, so it has been used to treat some skin diseases that increase horny and peeling skin such as seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, dandruff, acne, rice, soles, and soles ... At low concentrations, the drug has the effect of creating horns (regulating abnormal keratinization), at high concentrations (≥ 1%) the drug has the effect of peeling the horny layer. Salicylic acid softens and destroys the horny layer by increasing endogenous hydration (increasing the concentration of water), which can be due to reducing pH, causing the horny epithelium to swell, then peeling off. The drug has a weak anti -fungal effect, thanks to the peeling of the horny layer to prevent the fungus from developing and help the antifungal drugs absorb into the skin, thus also used to treat some skin fungal diseases.
