Butenafin hydrochlorid is benzylamine derivatives with the mechanism of action similar to the antifungal drugs of the Allylamine group. Butenafin Hydrochlorid inhibits Squalen Epoxen, thus preventing Ergosterol biosynthesis, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane. Benzylamine derivatives, such as the Allylamine group, acts on the Ergosterol biosynthesis path a step ahead of the azol group. Depending on the concentration of the drug and experimental mushrooms, on Vitro, butenafin hydrochlorid can kill fungi or mushroom pliers. However, the clinical significance of Invitro data is unknown.

Butenafin hydrochlorid has been shown to be effective against most of the following fungi, both in vitro and in clinical fungal infections: Epidermophyton Flocosum, Trichophyton Rugbrum, Malassezia Furfur, Trichophyton tonsurans, Trichophyton Mentagrophaces.
