alpha-chymotrypsin is the enzyme prepared by activating chymotrypsinogen, extracted from cow pancreas.

Alpha-chymotrypsin is a protein hydrolytic enzyme that has a selective catalyst effect on peptid links adjacent to aromatic amino acids.

alpha-chymotrypsin is also used to reduce inflammation and edema due to abscess and ulcers, or trauma and to help loosen upper respiratory diseases in patients with asthma, bronchitis, lung diseases and sinusitis
