Indications
Lactulose Stella oral solution indicated treatment in the following cases:
ATC code: A06AD11
Lactulose is a synthetic disaccharide, containing galactose and fructose, converted by intestinal bacteria into lactic acid and a small amount of acetic acid and formic acid. These acids reduce the pH of stool and ammonia conversion (NH3) is the diffuse form to the ammonium ionic form (NH4+) that cannot be diffused from the intestine into the bloodstream. Moreover, because the intestinal environment is more acidic in the blood, ammonia can diffuse from blood into the intestine, and then turn into an ionic ammonium ion. As a result, the content of ammonia in the blood decreases. Similarly, the absorption of amines (also involved in liver disease) may also decrease.
The main cause of the central nerve poisoning in people with liver coma is the hyperioma in the blood. Therefore, Lactulose is used in the treatment of liver brain disease, but it is necessary to take high doses. About 75 - 85% of patients have good clinical response to Lactulose treatment.
Lactulose has the effect of penetrating at the colon, so it increases the amount of water in the feces, softens the stool and stimulates intestinal motility. This effect may take 72 hours after taking the drug.
pharmacokinetics
lactulose is not absorbed in the digestive tract. Drugs to the large intestine, mainly in the form of metabolism. The drug is metabolized by bacteria, forming simple organic acids, mainly lactic acid. Excretion in urine in the form of not metabolized about 3% or less. Eliminating drugs mainly in feces.
Before taking Lactulose Stella oral solution for chronic constipation, liver, liver coma (20 packs x 15ml)
How to use
Lactulose Stella oral solution if the single dose should be used at the same time between the days. During treatment with laxatives should drink enough water (1.5 - 2 liters, equivalent to 6-8 glasses) during the day.
Dosage
Chronic constipation:
Adults: 10 - 20 g Lactulose (15 - 30 ml of oral solution)/day, divided 1-2 times/day, can increase to 40 g Lactulose (60 ml of oral solution)/day if necessary. Adjust the dose to respond to each patient.
Children: The recommended dose is as follows and adjusts the dose until there is response:
Children 1 month - 1 year: 2.5 ml of oral solution/time x 2 times/day.
Children 1 - 5 years old: 5 ml of oral solution/time x 2 times/day.
Children 5 - 10 years old: 10 ml of oral solution/time x 2 times/day.
Children 10 - 18 years old: 15 ml of oral solution // day.
Helps normal defecation for patients to do hemorrhoidal cutting procedure: 10 g Lactulose (15 ml of oral solution)/time x 2 times/day for the day before the procedure and 5 days after the procedure.
Heavy constipation due to douching with barium in the elderly: Lactulose dose is 3.3 - 6.7 g (5 -10 ml of oral solution/time x 2 times/day for 1-4 weeks.
Treatment of liver disease:
Adults: Start 20 - 30 g Lactulose (30 - 45 ml of oral solution)/time x 3 times/day. Then if necessary, every 1-2 days adjust the dose to be able to defecate soft 2-3 times/day. Clinical signs of the disease progresses in 1-3 days. Treatment time depends on clinical symptoms. The dose can be adjusted based on the pH of the fertilizer (determined by the indicator) at the beginning of the treatment and adjust the dose until the pH is about 5. This pH is usually achieved when the patient defecates 2-3 times daily. Long -term continuous treatment with lactulose can reduce severity and prevent recurrence.
Treatment of acute liver disease in adults: 20 - 30 g Lactulose (30 - 45 ml of oral solution), drink 1-2 hours apart to cause quick laxative. When a laxative effect is achieved, lactulose can be reduced to the necessary dose to have 2-3 times daily fertilizer.
Liver coma or liver coma: Use rectal sugar, recommendation of other preparations.
Children: Safety and effectiveness in children (babies to 18 years of age) have not yet been setting up liver. No data available.
Note: The above dose is for reference only. Specific dosage depends on the condition and level of progression of the disease. For a suitable dose, you need to consult a doctor or medical specialist.

Laxatives: not used simultaneously with other laxatives, because it causes a lot of defecation, making it difficult to accurately determine the lactulose dose for the treatment of liver brain disease.
antacids: When used simultaneously lactulose with non -absorbing antacids can affect the intestinal acid formation of lactulose.
Antibacterial drugs: Some antibacterial drugs may affect the intestinal bacteria to help metabolize lactulose. However, Neomycin can be used simultaneously in the treatment of liver brain disease.
