Uses

Indications

1% Methylene green solution is indicated in the following cases:

Methemoglobin treatment is acquired, or unknown.

Genital tract antiseptic.

Dyeing tissues in some diagnostic operations (dyeing bacteria, determining holes ...). At low concentrations, methylene green increases the conversion of methemoglobin into hemoglobin. With high concentrations, the drug has the opposite effect due to methylene iron iron oxidation (II) of hemoglobin into iron (III), convert hemoglobin into methemoglobin.

This reaction is the basis for the use of drugs in the treatment of cyanid poisoning. In this case, methemoglobin created by methylen green will link with cyanid to create cyanmethemoglobin, which prevents the interaction of cyanid with cytochrom as a substance that plays a role in cell respiration.

The drug is indicated in the treatment of symptoms of methemoglobin (when methemoglobin concentration is over 20%).
