Characteristics of zinc deficiency include developmental retardation and defects in tissues quickly divided such as leather, immune system, and intestinal mucosa. Water -soluble zinc salts are used as supplements to adjust zinc deficiency, for example, in malabsorption syndrome, throughout the stage of cultivation by intravenously, or cases of the body increases zinc loss (such as trauma, burns and protein loss) and Acrodermatitis Enteropathica (a rare genetic disorder characterized by heavy zinc shortage). Zinc has been tested in the treatment of many conditions that may be related to zinc deficiency such as colds, diarrhea, or supplements during pregnancy.

    pharmacokinetics

The absorption of zinc through the gastrointestinal tract is incomplete and reduced if there is a presence of some nutritional components such as phytat. The bioavailability of zinc in diets varies and is about 20-30%. Zinc is distributed throughout the body with the highest concentration found in muscles, bones, skin, eyes and prostate fluids. Checking the bone marrow often shows the characteristic "Red blood cells" (developing red blood cells containing iron molecules forming a typical circle surrounding the nucleus). They can be early manifestations of copper deficiency and can recover quickly after reducing zinc dose. However, they must be distinguished from hemolytic anemia that often occurs in serum, where high freedom of uncontrolled freelance in Wilson's disease.

The most unwanted effects are stomach irritation. This is usually worst with the first dose in the morning and disappears after the first days of treatment.
