Uses
Indications
5ml tobcol drugs are indicated for use in cases of infections caused by bacteria sensitive to Tobramycin such as: eyelid inflammation, conjunctivitis, tear bag inflammation, keratitis ....
Pharmacokological
Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic obtained from the streptomyces tenebrarius culture medium.
The drug has a bactericidal effect. Although the exact acting mechanism is unknown, perhaps the protein synthesis inhibitors in sensitive bacteria by attaching it is not reversible to the 30S subunit of ribosom.
Effective spectrum: In general, Tobramycin works with many aerobic Gram -negative bacteria and some aerobic Gram -positive bacteria. The drug does not work with chlamydia, mushrooms, viruses and most anaerobic bacteria.
In vitro, toobramycin are usually inferior to gentamicin for some Gram -negative bacteria including E. Coli and Serratia. But Tobramycin is a bit stronger than Gentamicin for P. Aeruginosa which is sensitive to both drugs.
But in Vietnam the sensitivity of this bacterium for the drug has changed. In Vietnam Tobramycin works well with S. Typhi, especially in the South (100%), S. Flexner (95%), Proteus spp (98%).
According to ASTS data in 1999, bacteria increased to Tobramycin resistance including E.coli toboli resistant tobramycin with a rate of 27.8%, Entramycin anti -Tobramycin anti -tobramycin and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa resistant tobramycin at 46.1%.
There is a cross -resistance between tobramycin and gentamicin but there are about 10% of the gentamicin strains that are also sensitive to tobramycin. Because of the potential toxicity to the ears and kidneys, it is necessary to closely monitor the function of kidney, hearing and vestibular.
