How is Vyondys 53 administered?
Vyondys 53 (golodirsen) is administered by intravenous (IV) infusion, which means it’s administered into a vein through a needle.
Vyondys 53 is given by a healthcare professional once a week. It is administered over 35 to 60 minutes via an in-line 0.2 micron filter. An indwelling venous access catheter is generally required. The recommended dose of Vyondys 53 is 30mg per kg of body weight.
Topical anesthetic cream can be applied to the site where the infusion will be administered if it is needed to help numb the area.
Vyondys 53 (100mg/2ml solution) comes in single dose vials that require dilution prior to infusion. After your healthcare professional has prepared the Vyondys 53 infusion they’ll begin by flushing the IV access line used to administer the drug with 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, USP, before beginning the Vyondys 53 infusion. After the Vyondys 53 infusion is complete they’ll flush the IV access line again.
Hypersensitivity reactions can occur when Vyondys 53 is administered. If this happens then the infusion may need to be slowed or interrupted.
Vyondys is a medication used to treat Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) in patients who have a mutation of the DMD gene that is amenable to exon 53 skipping.
