Can I give the Xolair shot to myself?
When first starting treatment, you will receive the Xolair (omalizumab) injection from your doctor in a healthcare setting like a clinic or hospital. This allows your doctor to monitor you for side effects like a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening condition that can lead to death, but your doctor is equipped to treat this if needed.
Xolair is given by one or more subcutaneous (under the skin) injections every 2 or 4 weeks. Your doctor will determine your exact dose. After training, you can follow the detailed “Instructions for Use” that comes with your medicine to administer at home. If you have questions, contact your healthcare provider.
