FRIDAY, Aug. 1, 2025 — Pro wrestling icon Hulk Hogan died of a heart attack, Florida officials confirmed Thursday.
The 71-year-old entertainer, whose real name was Terry Gene Bollea, died last week in Clearwater, Florida.
The official cause of death was acute myocardial infarction, the medical term for a heart attack, according to records from the medical examiner obtained by NBC News.
Officials also noted that Hogan had a history of atrial fibrillation, a heart rhythm disorder, and leukemia, a type of blood cancer. His death was ruled natural.
A statement from the city of Clearwater said emergency crews responded to a cardiac arrest call at Hogan’s home at 9:51 A.M. July 24, NBC News said.
He was taken to Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater and was pronounced dead at 11:17 A.M., authorities said.
Hogan was one of the biggest names in professional wrestling. Known for his powerful moves and energetic performances, he became a global star in the 1980s during the “Hulkamania” era.
One of his most famous moments came during WrestleMania III in 1987, when he lifted and slammed 7-foot-4, 500-pound André the Giant to the canvas, NBC News said.
