information for you.
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist have
told you.

1. WHAT WHITE LINIMENT IS AND WHAT IT IS USED FOR
The active ingredient in this product is turpentine oil.
White Liniment is a rubefacient, which is a substance that warms the skin. It is used for the relief of
sciatica, sprains, lumbago and rheumatic pains.

2. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU USE WHITE LINIMENT
Do NOT use:
 if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to turpentine oil or any of the other ingredients listed in
Section 6
Take special care when using this product:
 avoid contact with the eyes, inflamed or broken skin and other sensitive areas
Other medicines and White Liniment
There are no known interactions with other medicines. If you are unsure ask your doctor or
pharmacist before using this product.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
3. HOW TO USE SOAP LINIMENT
For external use only
Adults, including the elderly, and children (12 years and older):
 Rub the liniment thoroughly onto the affected area as required.
Not recommended for use in children under 12 years of age unless instructed by a doctor.
If symptoms persist talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If anyone accidentally swallows some see a doctor straight away. Take the product with you so that
it can be identified.
4. POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, White liniment can cause side effects although not everybody gets them.
Tell a doctor straight away if you get any of the following:
 Hypersensitivity or allergic reactions such as skin rash, swelling of the face, lips or throat,
difficulty breathing.

Other side effects
 Skin irritation
 Excessive use may cause some of the effects of poisoning (local burning, stomach upset,
coughing/choking, rapid heartbeat)
Reporting of side effects
If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects
not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the Yellow Card Scheme at
www.mhra.gov.uk/yellowcard. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on
the safety of this medicine.
5. HOW TO STORE WHITE LINIMENT
 Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
 Store below 25°C.
 Do not use after the expiry date on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that
month.
6. CONTENTS OF THE PACK AND 0THER INFORMATION
What White Liniment contains:
The active ingredient is turpentine oil 25.0% v/v.
The other ingredients are strong ammonia solution, oleic acid, ammonium chloride and water.
What White Liniment looks like and contents of the pack:
White liniment is a white emulsion with a characteristic odour.
It is available in amber glass bottles as dispensing packs of 500 ml and 2 litre and patient packs of
100ml and 200ml. Not all packs may be marketed.
